Pope Francis I. “Laudato Si’ – Encyclical Letter, Francis I.” Vatican: the Holy See. Vatican Website. Libraria Editrice Vaticana, May 2015. Pope Francis I calls for a moral response to the global problem of climate change, which disproportionately impacts the world’s poorest people. “He proposes radical economic, social, and lifestyle transformation based on elements of an integral ecology, one which clearly respects its human and social dimensions. This is a remarkable and truly historic document, framing in terms of moral responsibility for beings over whom we hold the power of life and death. Solidly based in science, the pope calls for us to speak, act, and live our lives in ways that honor the integrity of the living Earth–teachings not that dissimilar from the Buddha’s, as portrayed on this website.
